over half of all semi-automatic rifles sold every year including the one that was used in the newtown massacre. the california teacher a pension fund has about $751 million invested in the company that is responsible for that, cerberus. late yesterday a spokesman for the fund told the sacramento beat that the pension fund was considering pulling its investment out of cerberus, saying "events that occurred in connecticut are a wakeup call to re-examine our investments." the california teacher's pension fund has a lot of money for those investments. $155 billion overall to be exact. remember $751 million of that is with cerberus. so facing that kind of clout cerberus announced at 1:00 a.m. this morning that it would sell freedom group and it would return the proceeds to investors. the company said -- cerberus said "it is apparent that the sandy hook tragedy was a watershed event that has raised the national debate on gun control to an unprecedented level. as a firm, we are investors not statesmen or policy

"america live" starts right now. megyn: fox news alert on the investigation into the school shooting in newtown, connecticut. a new report today says police have yet to find any evidence that the accused gunman was on medication for my mental health issues. welcome to "america live", everyone. i'm megyn kelly. family members and friends described newtown gunman adam lanza suffering from some type of mental illness or mental disorder which could have contributed to the murderous rampage. but at this point police are still trying to get their hands on his medical records. a white house brief is getting underway. we expect the issue of gun violence may come up. it has in the past couple days. sunday night president obama said this was the 4th time in his presidency that a community has been torn apart by a mass shooting. he promised to do everything in his power to prevent another tragedy. several reporters pressed the press secretary jay carney on this issue, asking why the president has not done more to take the lead on this iss

that was used in the shooting. here is how the money goes. cerberus, a big private equity company. big investors. it actually put together a group of these firearms companies into something called freedom group, and one of the investors into this is the california state teachers retirement system. have you technically as indirect investors, california teachers who own about 6% of bushmaster, the company that made that firearm. today, cerberus, the private equity firm, says it's looking to sell freedom group and the maker of bush master and get out of that business. in terms of private equity, that is an unusual turn of events, a company wanting to get out of business. cerberus says it's apparent that the sandy hook tragedy is a watershed event that has raised the national debate on gun control to an unprecedented level. it is not our role to take positionsor attempt to shape or influence the gun control policy debate, there are, however, actions that we as a firm can take." they are trying to sell the company that makes the bushmaster. the california teachers retirement system, their spokesman o

were trying to work quickly to get this cleaned up because this road is used to get on 280. this whole area was flooded for the past five hours because a hydrant was shooting water into the air. here is a look at this guiser. officers say just before 1:00 a.m., the driver lost control and hit the fire hydrant and kept driving. police caught up with him and arrested him for suspected dui. it took several hours for public work crews to shut off the water because they had a hard time getting to the valve. >> at first, the guiser was about 50 feet high. it was a constant stream of water. it flooded the roadways where we stopped traffic going westbound and we had to block off eastbound traffic as well so the cars would not hydroplane or anything like that. >> reporter: the driver is 22 years old of woodside. police say he was cooperative. public work crews spent the morning mopping up the water and the debris and securing the hydrant of the police were using the parking lot to detour around the flooded area. back out here live, this intersection at sandhill and el camino is back open. you c

this happens. is it going to be us versus them? >> this one might be different. i think that the innocence of the lives taken, the young tenderness of the age made people think what can we do? aside from some places where the talk is only about gun control, there has been a sense of anxiety about what we are not doing to help provide for families that have a loved one that is mentally ill and needs serious help before they do harm to nobody else. this one could be different. there might be something we can do. to help prevent it from happening again. >> it seems like we are talking about different variables to mental health issues to school security, to gun control previously we only focused on gun control. does it mean there is progress? >> andrea: i don't know. as hopeful that i am that dana is right it seems we have one side shouting their point. the other side shouting their point. you comedians making fun of one side, usually con seventives for trying to defend their point. there should be a waiting period. there needs to be time before everybody jumps up and down about this. song is
